In 1950, the world championship, the fourth in a row, and the first, held after World War II, hosted Brazil. Millions of hot Brazilian fans remembered, of course, that in the I and II championships the winners were the hosts of the tournaments. They also remembered that at the last pre-war championship in 1938, in distant Europe, the Brazilian national team reached the semifinals, where they lost, as every Brazilian firmly knew, only because the coach did not install Leonidas.
